According to information obtained from naval authorities, previous to his hasty departure, Wen Shu-tch assembled all the naval officers and made known his intentions of leading the men-of war away from Canton to a certain place thereby severing the navy's relations from Dr. Sun Yat-sen. This was opposed by all the officers; and Wen finding that his treacherous designs failed to meet the approval of the naval officers, believes that Canton is not a very safe place for him to stay, and left. Immediately after learning that Wen had left the entire body of naval officers called at Headquar- ters to explain the nature of Wen's desertion. Ex-governor Hà Han min, who is acting in charge of Headquarters in the absence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen who is now at Shek- lung, issued the order in the name of the Generalissimo, removing Wen from office. This order was followed by several appointments placing the different men-of-war in command of their respective captains now directly under the control of the Generalissimo, Glenamey, J. M. & Co.) from As yet no one has been appointed to succeed Wen in command of the squadron. The appointment will not be made, until Dr. Sun returns from the East River front.
Wen was appointed Commander of the squadron last May and it was thought that he would remain loyal to Dr. Sun Yat-sen whatever might happen. Contrary to all expecta- tions, when Chen Chlung-ming re-
belled against Dr. Sun, Wen Shu teh ordered several of the larger atwy men-of-war to remain neutral. Even when Dr. Sun Yat-sen- was in refuge on board one of the smaller ships, Wen hesitated to render any assistance, which .re- sulted in Chen, Chiung-ming at- tacking Whampoa and destroying Dr. Sun's base of operations
