IMPORTS AND EXPORTS IN 1922.
BIGGER BOATS PLANNED,
The report of the Superintendent Plans for the future were men-of Imports and Exports for the year tioned by the Chairman (Mr. 1922 which is to be tabled at this D. G. M. Bernard) in the course of afternoon's meeting of the Legisla his speech at the twenty-fifth tive Council states inter alia annual meeting of the
"Star" Ferry Company Ltd. held at the offices of Messrs, Jardine Matheson and Co., Ltd. this morning.
There were also present Mr. A. O. Lang (director), W. S. Brown (secretary), L.
Greenhill, J. Hooper, J. Hyde, E, Sadick, J. T. Bagram and A: H. M. da Silva (shareholders).
The Chairman said: Gentlemen, the report and state- ment of accounts have been in your hands for some days, and I will, with your permission, follow the the usual custom and take them as
read.
S.
The camings for the past year show a satisfactory increase on the previous year, and the balance. available for appropriation is $193,620.20, which 'includes $34,619,4 brought forward from last year,
Your Directors recome mend the payment of a dividend of
per share $2.00 and a bonus of $2.00 per share, absorbing $160,000,000, leaving $33.630.20 to be carried forward to this year's account, and I trust this will meet with your approval.
A letter was received recently from the Kowloon Residents Association, drawing attention to the congestion during the busy hours. Your Directors are doing] everything possible to cater for the requirements of the public with their present launches, but they have recognized for some time that the growth of the com- munity in Kowloon calls for an improved service, and in order to meet the present day needs, they had plans prepared for larger boats, capable of transporting inator cars at the same time as passengers.
The Government have also been considering a service of a similar nature to nin between Jordan Road and a point near the terminus of the present Yaumati Ferries.
