This photograph shows the members of the Band of the Swiss Guards, in the Vatican, dressed in their historic medieval costumes. This band furnishes concerts for the Pope and plays when ceremonies are being held. The players still wear small swords-a survival of the day when they were expected to fight, as well as, to play; for the Pope then was dependent for his safety upon the fidelity of his carefully picked Swiss Guards.

Bill Brennan, the Chicago heavy- weight, was seriously injured in the terrific beating he took from Luis Angel Filpo, the Argentine heavy-weight. Physicians declare they are amazed a man could suffer such injuries in a tight and live.

• An Indian mummy, at least 1,000 years old, has been given by Mr. JP. Morgan to the American Museum of Natural History. The mummy was recently X-rayed in an effort to determine its state of preservation. When unearthed it was covered entirely with dust and stones containing anhydrous sulphate of copper, which prevented the organic matter from disintegrating. The mummy of King Tutankha- men will be X-rayed in a similar manner.
