After hooking a giant sailfish, measuring 7 feet 6 inches in length, Mrs. Thomas, prominent social leader, lost him for a moment, but her hook caught in the fish's sail, and then followed a 3-hour battle, in which she and her companion were towed four- miles out into the open sea. They eventually landed the fish.

Philip Biting has been named Collector of the Port of New York. Robert W. Bliss, now. Third Assistant Secretary of State, has been appointed Minister to Sweden, succeeding Ira Nelson Morris, who has resigned. J. Butler Wright, member of the American Commission to the Brazilian Centennial Exposition, has been appointed Third Assistant Secretary of State, to succeed Mr. Bliss.

She is to use the best-known of her eleven names-Florence May Dibble, who has been arrested and charged with receiving regular Government allotments from four of her six soldier hus- bands. A detective is seated next to her while standing behind her is Ralph Carry, with whom she was said to have been living.

Having seen John Drinkwater's "Abraham Lincoln" presented here by the Courtneidge-Holloway Company, Hongkong will find these photographs interesting. Published on the occasion of Lincoln's birth day, February 12-they include the famous picture made by Brady, who photographed the Civil War under fire. The painting shows Lincoln delivering his renowned Gettysburg speech Robert Lincoln, the President's son, is the only surviving member of the Lincolri family.
