It is officially announced tit) Ching sent a Note to the Japanese Legation this morning. The Note states that the greatest obstacle to cordial and friendly relations bo- tween China and Japan lies in the existence of the Treaties und Notes of May 25, 1915. It recalls that at the Peace Conference of Paris, the Chinese delegation presented a memorandum giving the reasona for the abrogation of the Treaty, and the Chinese delegates re-submitted the actucrandum at Washington, giving four renous; firstly, "that there was no quid pro quo; second- ly, it violated the treaties of China with other powers; thirdly that they were inconsistent with the principles relating to China, adopt (Reuter's Service to the China Mail.)

From the beginning the treaty had been consistently condemned by public opinion in China, and recently Parliament tad passed a resolution declar ing the treaties null and void, and called on the Government to et accordingly. As regards Suruqa, this Report states that the introduction of Chi- nese has not resulted in the normal degradation of the Samoans, there fore the further introduction of 1111- married Chinesa need not be resist- ed on that ground.
