Cotton. Quotations have advanobd considerably since our last report, and a fair volume of business haa' been booked. Prices during the past few days have eased pomewhat. Liverpool prices.

During the past fortnight a very unsettled market due to the rapid rise in New York has brought| out numerous offers but little has been placed, and the market is settling down to old levels. Most of the weak spots are filled up, and price 576 decidedly stiffer. Egyptian cotton han j scarcely risen at all, and buyers | are favouring this cotton more. Inquiry for cloth from Indian outlets is rather team aggressive. It has not disappeared by any meaOJ, but orders are not so numerous. Some business is going through still in the lighter fabrics for Calcutta, Madras, Bombay and Karachi. The reaction in the exchange has adversely affected the situation.

Leading merchants are discouraged with the position in Shanghai. More hopeful views are entertained with regard to Hongkong.

A modest trade is in progress for Java and Singapora, and more low offer are reported from Egypt and the Levant.

A certain amount of buying is in progress for South America,

European business in paralysed by the grave outlook in Central Europe, The Balkans and Russia.
