MISSION TO CHINA AND JAPAN

BRUSSELS, February 22 The Belgian Central Industial Committee gavo a reception to the economic mission to Japan. The Japanone Ambasador expressed-his conviction that the mission would be most quccessful. M. Jasper Baid that Belgium urgently required new outlets abroad for her producte to replace the former markets at her doors.

BRUSSELS, January 13.

A big effort is being made by Belgian' manufacturers, aided by the Govern ment, extend their foreign trade. Under the auspices of the Comité Central Industriel, a Belgian or- gation similar to the Federation of British Industries, a mission, comprising representatives of the leading firms of the country, bas started for the Far East with the avowed object of recapturing pre- war markets for Belgian goods in China and Japan, which have been practically lost since the war.

A similar mission was organised by the Government about a year ago under the direction of M. Bou-! ms which, during the course of 1923, visited the various South Amier Republica and carried out“ s programme of traile' propaganda for Belgian industry. Its effects! nna becoming apparent. Some months ago Brazil placed consider. able orders with Belgian metallurgi- cal firms; and now the Argentine Republic: has placed an order with the Comptoir des Aciéries Belges for 80,000 tons of rails (37 kg.), as well as for railway accessories. · A further order for 54,000 tons of mile is announced, and negotiations have Been opened in connection with the supply of 20 locomotives and 2,000 Waggons,
