WATER DRIES UP.

The Siloat Pool at Albury, Sur Toy, famous as a beauty spot for the clearness-of-its water and for ital sylvan surroundings as mysteri ously dried up and is still empty.

What caused the water to dis appear is a puzzle to those who know the pool well, but various pro- posals have been made to remedy the mischief. One of these is that the Tilingbourne Brook, a quarter of a mile away, should bo tapped by means of a rain or water-wheel, which at little expense, could raise | the water to a height and then allow it to flow through pipes to the pool,

Apart from its beauty the pool has become famous from a legend quoted by Martin Tupper in his romance. Stephan Langton," to! the effect that a maiden was bath- ing in it when King John visited the locality. Seeing the monnaeli approach, she retired into tho water, lost her depth, and was drowned. Her brother, who ran to ber rescue, also lost his life, both bodies, lying side by side, being visible in the clear crystal water.
