Parents' duties towards their young children in home studies, the methods to adopt and what to avoid in parental teaching were disensBEDİ in most informative lecture on "Home Education," given at the Helens May Institute this morning, by Mrs-J. R. Wood,
She emphasised that home eduen- tion.had an important bearing upon a child's future life, which rendered| bome studies a most important mat- ter. Hop education, she describe ed, as a public trust to be regarded from a moral besides an educational point of viewThe lecturer laid particular stress on the fact that in bringing up children parents must rely upon three things: atmosphere of environment, discipline of habit. and the presentation of living ideas. She inslanced authority as being Lone of the most important features of environment and said that par ents should not allow their children foo many indulgences, such as the eating of too many sweets. Par- ents should teach their children not
to dawdle but influence them into the habit of attention and child should be made to think for himself. Discipline and, "truthfulness," "sho" went on to prove, were important factor in the proper upbringing of [n.child mud self-annagement indst [be regarded with equal seriousness;
Mrs. Wood advised that lessons should be postponed until a child je six years old but great care, slie (said, almoúld be taken that time was not wasted. Her personal opinion was that boys should ente a boy's school at the age of seven years, but for a girl bone education could continue indefinitely. Mrs. | Wood then suggested methods of imparting knowledge into young children.
