SCHOOL

DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES.

THE CHINA MAIL.

Mr. Irving, wife of the Hon. Mr. E. A. Irving (Director of Education) distributed the school prizes at the Kowloon British Bchool yesterday aftern on. Many parents and friends of the pupils were present.

Reading bla annual report the Head- master Mr. Richards, said that the school had done some very arefal work during the strike, many of their cadets and scoots proving very va'n. able helps where necessary. The Midsummer and annual examinations showed very good results, and he con- nidered this to be one of the most. promising signs they could look for. The results of the senior local er- aminations too were excellent. The health of the school had been good throughout the year. The St. George'a Society had given a donation of $40 to the School Library and also $10 for special prizes.

The Hongkong and Whampoa Dockyard rololarships had been won by W. Jenner and Elea Bell, and the J. R. M. Smith scholarship by Dorothy Lyons. The St George's Bociety's prize for the best essay on "The Ways of Celebrating St. George's Day" was awarded to Mariory Stuart. The Government scholarship in clasa 1. har been won by Eather Barth, in class 2, be Dorothy Goodman; in Class 3, by Dorothy Wiltshire; in class 4, by Julia Barth; in clasa 5, by George Arrold; and in clare 6, by Reginald Woolly Interest in sports had been maintained to its fall pitch. He concluded by thinking the staff for their services during the year.

The Hon. Mr. Irving, in the course of a speech on the year's work. ex- plained that the aim of the se' ool was to prepire boys and girie to pass the matriculation examination of the Hongkong University with as many bonours at could be expected. The blue ribbon of their ambition, he said:" was to win the King Elward scholambip. One reason why they had fallen short of this ambition in the past, was that the children generally remained at school only one year after pass inz the Junior local examination. He enggested that this was within the power of the parents to remedy. Speaking with reference to the junior
