SATURDAY'S RACING.
GOOD AFTERNOON'S SPORT.
Good racing, delightful weather and an exceptionally big attendance.all helped towards the success of the extra gymkbans hold at Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon. With St. Andrew's Day so near it was fitting: that there should have been about the meeting a distinctly Scottish atmosphere, This was produced by the Scottish #am's given to the races (like the "Gorbals Gallop" and tho "Dumfries Debris ) and by the play. ing of Scottish aire by the pipe, band of the Volunteer Force and the band of the King's Regiment. H.E. the Governor (Sir RE. Stubbs) and Admiral Sir Arthur Leveson wers amongst those persent.
While the use of the grandstand is still witheld from the general public a good many Jockey Club members were enticed into it on Saturdy by the removal of thin wooden standa from against the rails near the Judge's box to the public roclosure and the thoughtful providing of comfortable leather cushions on the grandstand steps. This was a real improvement.
Mr. Harold Seth was riding very successfully until a spill on Koockuh Leg in the fourth-race put him out of action for the re-t of the afternoon. He was not seriously hart but was shaken and burt his shoulder slightly.. He won the first event, a hurdle race with ball dozen fences to be negotiated la aine furlongs, ia fuc style on Naturan and came boose again on Scemperdala in the second.
There was a disappointingly small feld in the chiof event, the St. Andrew's Stakes and his was probab- ly doe to the fact that there are pet very many ponies here capable of doing much a mile and a half race. Soares had a comfortable win on Spotted Sand and there was an exciting fight for recond place between Romani Colani and Navajo Scout. Mosaic Tile disappointed a big crowd of backers by coming in last but made up for it later by winring the last event, a mile and a quarter race, - by a head after a thrilling duel with
