REPARATIONS WRANGLE.
BRITISH OPPOSE FRENCHI.
GERMANY FACING POLITICAL CRISIS.
LONDON, October 23. The accelerated collapse of the mark is focussing attention on the gravity of the reparations question.
According to Paris messages, a big lug of war is proceeding in the Reparations Commission where opposing British and French schemes are being considered.
Sir John Bradbury particularly objected to the wide powers of control the French propose to confer on the committee of guarantees az exceeding the Allice' juridical powers and likely to hasten instead of avert a financial crash in Germany. The British hold the opinion that no time should be lot in taking practical incasures, if it is not already too late.
An acute political crisis is apparently approaching in Berlin where nervousness and gloom predominate in political cicles. The possibility a the Socialists' withdrawal from the Government is being discussed and social disorders are feared. The French plan, naturally, has been unfavourably received in Germany, where it is still ineinuated Franco is more bent on political than financial site.
It is difficult to believe, however, that France does not desire a satisfactory solution in view of the parlous state of her own finances just revealed in the Chamber's budget by the reporter who points out that over al milliard sterling has been borrowed in 1921 and 1922. and unless the present" methods are changed France will be obliged to borrow £1,250,000,000 in the next three years as nearly a milliard is still required for reconstruction of the liberated regions.
