Gtt and Henderson is the firm, and Bat Henderson, the boy who used to Gott, the other partner, is also deaf. hum the weird tunes, is more than on executiva-he is a song writer and a composer as well. Although he can't hear a single nota he writes the lyrica nad directs the writing of scores
"Handicaps don't always prevent success," Henderson said; they merely make you fight the barder,"
Henderson was born in Durango, Col. He lost his hearing when aix years old and was left a penniless orphan at nine. Through charity be received some education in deaf and blind schools, whero ho was graduated with honours.
A WANDERING LIFE,
For oven or eight years, Hender son said, he drifted through the West, working as a dishwasher or cook. In the winter of 1915 he was stranded by snowslides at Silverton, Col.. and took a dishwashing job st the hotel. Also stranded in Silver- ton was Carl Molntosh, `n widing engineer of Balt Lake City, to whom Henderson gives all credit for Eis
success.
One night as McIntosh sat at dit ner he heard waitresses giggl ng-
over the latest eccentricities of the Dummy. They were ridiculing some poetry he had written and some of
his strange tunes. Melatush took an interest in this, looked up Henderson und arked to see some of tin verse.
The next I heard from him," Henderson continued, was an order to go to Balt Lake City, where' I was placed under private teachers and taught all kinds of writing—short. stories, movie, fiotion and so forth. A publisher in Chicago later sent for I me to come east.
"For three years I did free-lance writing, but always there was the lunging to write. not poetry, but ronic itself. Tho tunes ran through my head, though I could not sing them.
"In 1919 Gott and I started out with a shoestring and a lot of nerve in what everyone culled the world's wildest venture. We hired a com plete staff of writers and composera. I write the lyrics and direct the writ- log of the tubes which run through- my head, though I know just how they sound,"
Gott was formerly a prize fighter, and lost his hearing by a blow from
