A large ard precious cargo of Ameri can girls arrived in England recently board the specially char.ed Cunarder Saxonis," and consisted of 475 undergraduates of American women's colleges, who will spend two months intensively acquiring European culture instead of wating their time in mentally profitle # holidays. They are travelling under the care of the Institute of Interuational Education, and are representative of practically all the American colleges for women from Mains to California. One hundred aud forty of the girls, with a super- erudite chaperon for each ten, landed at Plymouth, and the “Saxonia” steamed out to unload the remainder Cherbourg and Hamburg for tours of France, Italy, and Scandinavia, The programme is worked out so that
no historic spot in Britain will be missed. Opportunities to dig up weapons of Ancient Britons on the spot will be limited, but some of the party will not be alified unless they
find the original basts that William I wore when he stepped ashore at Hastings. After exploring Britain practically from Land's End to John O'Groats the Englishgroup will devota
a few days to the batlefields of Flanders and France, and then join the Continental section in Paris.
