A noteworthy aspect of the decision is M. Poincare's virtual abandonment of his oft-repeated insistonce productive guarantees, but when the French Cabinet discusses the resolution to-day it will be faced with the substantial fact that re paration in kind, of which thirty-six mil- lion sterling is still 'dus this
year, met
continue and the bulk goes to France.
Moreover, although Germany bas received a temporary remission of fourteen million. sterling the sword of Damocles still hangs over her head, while Germany's acceptance is taken as a foregone conclusion.
Reports so far obtainable from Germany show that the unsatisfactory features of the decision are overshadowed by intense relief that it is no worse in view of thể undiluted pessimism and sensational re ports which have beelt holding the field during the past few days.
PARIS, Augui Dist. The decision of the Reparation Commis sion has been received with feelings of relief, as it is the least objectionable of all compromise plans submitted with the object of securing unanimous agreement, thus averting an acute cleavage of the Allies.
The decision is described in the press as both a moral satisfaction for France, and a serious warning to Germany that the patience of the Allies is exhausted. Also that she is liable for, heavy, sanctions if she does not try to seriously put her house in order and compel the industrial magnates to assure a big percentage of reparations charges.
All eyes are now fixed, with great hope, on the approaching settlement of the
reparations and inter-Allied ́ debts, whose details will be worked out by a conference at Brussels, but the press points out that a great effort towards conciliation of the most varying views is still recessary, while, it remains to bo Been how Germany will accept the solu tion.
