BROS' WORKS.

OFFER OF £4,637,700 FÖR WORLD'S LARGEST TEX. TILE MACHINERY MANU- FACTURING FIRM.

To view of the recent cable con- troversy over a big Far Eastern order eaid to have been given to Messrs. Platt Bros,, the following condensed report from the "Oldham & District Journal of Commerce" will be of interest:-

Much interest has been aroused in commercial circles by the anonuca- ment that Massen. Platt Bros, and Co., Ltd., Oldham, the largest firm of textile machinery manofacturers in the world, have received an offer of 45/- per share for the ordinary shares of the company-making a total pur- chase price of £4,637,700-and that the directora ireoramended the share- libiders concerned to accept the offer.

Tha circular issued by the directors to the holdera of ordinary bares, over the signatures of Mr. R. P. Hall, Bir G. W, Needham and Mr. J. S. Nuttall, contains the following:-

"We have to inform you that an offer has been received for the pur- chase of all the £t fully-paid ordinary ebares of the company, except thone comprised in the Hartford Trust, at a price of £2 5. per share. The pro- spective purchasers are willing that the company shall pay the vendor shareholdere a 'dividend of 4 per share (that is, 20 per cent.) in re- apect of the past year. The raid di vidend of 4- per share will be paid in July, but income tax will be de- ducted therefrom in the usual way, and, of course, any shareholders who are liable to super tax must include it in their super tax returns.

"The existing preference abarca and debestures will not be affected.

It was first rumoured that the pro- posed purchasers were the Beecham Trust, Ltd, but this was denied, and it was stated that the offer came from the well-known investment company trading under the name of B.S.T., Ltd., with headquarters in Lombard Street London, and subsidiary com panies in Manchester and other places.
