ROUND THE WORLD IN A YACHT.

There was now lying in the Singa- pore Boads on June 20 the American racht Speejacka," ́s beautiful little craft, which arrived there on ita tour round the world. The owner of the vessel is an American lionaire, Mr. 4. Y. Gowen who is Vice President of the Le high Cement Company, one of the biggest operating in the industry in the United States, and baila „from Cleveland Mr. Gowe, with a party of guests, is realising an ambition to take ■TOFERS round the world in a beat less than 100 feet in length. The "Speejacks" iv 98 feet from bow to stern, with a 17 feet beam and draws 5 feet to 7 feet in the water. Her gross tonnage is 100, and nett 64 tons, whilst the driving power consists of two 208 hp. Mr. Gowen graduated at Harvard in 1907 and then started as a labourer

in a stone quarry, with the object of learning the cement business right From the bottom, and rose to become, thirteen year later, one of the leaders of industry.
