LAUNCH OF THE "DURENDA." COMING EVENTS ADVERTISED

CARGO SHIP FOR THE BLANCO.

The second motor vessel built to the order of the British India Steam

Navigation Co. was launched from the yard of Robert Duncan and Co., Fort Glasgow, recently. The hall is very similar to that of the "Domala," but there are some modifications to the, machinery.

The length is 465 ft. overall, the beam 58 ft., and the length b.p. 450 ft. two eight- In the Durenda " evlinder North British Diesel engines will be installed, with cylinders 261 ins. diameter and 47 ins stroke. having a speed of revolution of 96 per

minate. These motors are similar to

those which were installed in the motor ship Hanraki " and difer from theDomaia's" propelling plant in e fact that they each drive their own twin air compressors. In the Domala" the air compressors were pled to separare Diesel engines in that a higher s.hp. might be delaped, so as to give the vessel a higher speed than otherwise would be possible. As a result the "Durenda" will be a slightly lower res el than the "Domala" and will no doubt! attain a speed of about 12 to 13 knots of the sister vessel.

Electric power will be used through out for anxiliary purposes, sad & couple of generators are to be installed
