TRADE RECOVERING.

BOARD OF TRADE HOPEFUL

LONDON, May 11.

Mr. Stanley Baldwin, President of the Board of Trade, said the coal trade alone bad reached its economic level. It was the only trade where exports were some thing like the pre-war average, but unfortunately there was no great demand for industrial coal and the demand was not likely to revive till trade generally began to improve.

The iron and steel trade had bad a

very difficult time and was unlikely to reach a paying position for some t'me as the world was convinced that bottom rises bely not yet been reached.

The wool trade was comparatively cheerful, notably in yards piece gardi, bat the growth of tariffs abroad was injurious.

Turning to the other side of the picture, our productive power was greater than ever, while London remained the world's financial centre. He quoted the percentages of exports since 1913 as khowing that we are slowly climbing out of the eppakking rit into which we fell on the collapse of the post-war boom, and giving as rral hope that we are on the eve of a better day. He forecasted that trade would continue to show slow and gra'tal improvement but said all classer ço operate in production.
