GENDA SJRPRIST..

GERMANY'S TREATT WITH RUSSIA.

•ECONOCH REGIPROCITY. »

Gavoa, 4pril 1 The Russian and German fealy wES signed establishing once mare diplomatic relations and mutually cancelling claims for indemnities during the war andance

LATER

The announcement of the initialling of the Russia and German treaty was completely unexpected and astounded conference circles, -

The Germany, however, diclare that special signo ance does not attach to the fact that it was signed at Genoa. The German commanîque making the announce ment saya that claims for damages based on the Soviet & socialisations have also been annulled with a reservation bat Russia does not grant secialisation compensation tal third party and withdrawn socialisations affecting the subjects of other states. The signatories agree to grant each other economic reciprocity and the most favoured nation treatment. The German announcement en phasise that the treaty in nowire affects relations with other countries and in nowise detract from the signatories' interest in the general aims of the Genca conference.

BRITISH DELEGATION DISTURBED,

Gemps, Apr1 11.

The German delegation je taking pains to ezt phasine that the Russian and German agreement is merely the culmination of several months of negotiations and, in deed that it had long been foreseen by Britain.

Nevertheless the ecclusion of the treaty as the pre-i sent juncture is regarded as very unfavourable by the British delegation which has been endeavouring to hasten a general agreement in order to prevent division. of Europe into two camps.

Mr. Lloyd George istomed the German emissary. braging the treats that he took a grase view of the German action in thus going behind the backs of the powers. The Germans position tis ar the Allies has therefore worsened, but the situation as regards Russia is not affected and presumably Legotiations with the Soviets will be continued.
