OPIUM REVENUE.

INDIA'S FIGURES.

In the House of Commons, in apawer to questions, Lord Winterton gave Egures showing that it was estimated 1,645,000 lbs. of opium were produced from 145,000 acres in British India during 1920-1. The grose revenue to the Central Government therefrom was £2,415,000. The corresponding figures for 1918-9 were 2,247,000 lbs. from 177.000 acres, producing F3.289,000 revenue.

„Lord Winterton said he had no information with regard to the total production in the Indian States where it was estimated there were 36,000 acres in 1919-20' compared with 24,000 in 1918-9. Ten chests of opian ware exported from British India in 1919-20 compared with fourteen in 1918-9.
