For the larger seeds, such as beans. peas, or barloy, weight and size are the essentials, and they are first passed throngh machine which Boparates them into three qualities.

The needs are fed on to a sieve with a large mesh, which retains those that are too large, and passes the rest on to a second sieve with a fine mesh, which discards those that are too small.

The conclusion of Mahomed Ali's address was highly emotional. Ha burst into tears and declared to the jury that the world was God's, and did not belong to King George or any others. He also compared his trial to that of Christ before Pilate. Before the jury again crucified Christ, he said, they must think of their souls, on E. Glassop Mr J. treatment with finer machinery,! though some of them, such as begonite & Ms H. G. Mr and Mrs Kunnatt seeds, which are in the form of ag fine a dust that two million of them are required to the ounce, are treatel entirely by hand.

The selected serds are then ready for the testing proper.

A number of them, usually about two hundred of each kind, are "sen" on small circular pieces of damp blotting paper with a narrow ring of paper round the edges to prevent them from rolling off.

These are then placed in incubators kept at the correct temperature, and in due time, varying from two or three days for mustard to several weeks for some of the grasses, thứ seeds germinate and put out shoots.

The number of seeds that have germinated is then counted and the proportion of germinating seeds calculated. Any lots of seeds which fall below the fixed proportion aro condemned.

Samples of the seeds that survive these exeting tests are then planted, and their progress is watched to see whether they are developing in accordance with expectations.
