1912.
Report of a robbery comes from the village of Matauwai where farmer states that his house was en
admittauer by breaking a hole in the roof and letting themselves down by means of ropes. They stole clothing to the value of $44.50.
We called the gentry and influential tered during the night of Tuesday and men of the city together and organ-Wednesday by robbers who gained ized committee of the gentry and local officials to examine into cach osse asking for help or seeming to need help. We organized another commitice to handle the food stuffs. This committee is to give relief to those only who have suffered greatly by the fire aud whose cases have been passed on by the examining commit- toe. All supplies of relief are to be kept securely under lock and given out only in case of real need. By sale- guarding the gilts of relief the supplies will extend into the future when the greatest suffering will come.
The best way to help is to send raw materials of food stuff or money by which this cau be bought. Cheap 'rice can be had from the interior, yet supplies that can be used by the Chinese in making such food as they commonly use will be appreciated and can be used to meet the needs.

I bave found that the leading Chinese citizens do not wish any more ail than is actually needed. They have no desire to accept carity as in any case they can care for themselves. They do greatly appreciate the spirit of sympathy and kindness shown by their fr ends in Hongkong. The merchants to Hongkong were the fins to get aid to the city. This will ever boemembered by the Chinese show ing the willingness of their English friends to help them in a time of College. need.
