SATURDAY'S GYMKHANA.

SOME GOOD RACING.

Delightfully frosh and Funny wenther favoured the fifth gymkbada meeting held by the Hongkong Jockey Club at Happy Valley on Saturday It looked at first as though the fixture was going to the mther poorly attended but the crowd swelled to its nsual proportions as the afternoon 'advanced. Most people.. it was evident, has failed to "note that in order to run the programme through in daylight, it had been arranged to begin the meeting, half an hour earlier. I. E. Governor, H: E. the General Officer Command, ing and the Clonial Secretary were' notable spectators present throughout the afternoon.

The fact that Mr. Bell Irving won three, and Mr. Doyle two cut if the sévén races is sufficient indication that it was an "O" day for outsiders, and dividends on the pari mutuel were pretty moderate in consequence. Pawnshop (Soares) disappointed a very large following by allowing Seamperdule (Bell-frying) to, win the

Stakes Gymkhana

and with it the Gynikhann Cup. From the Rock to the winning post it was a great rar and well ridden. "Mr. Doyle took Bolshevic to the front right at the start but on the run bome, Mr. Belt Irving overtook him ni ran in a winner by a length and a half. Mr. Newazee brought Parran into third place and Pawnshop's discomforte backers had to be content with a fourth. Scamperdate | paid the best divideral of the day $23.40.

There was another fine finish in the next event--the Once, Round Handicap for which Lighting, with Mr Bell Irving up was very much "fancied. Soares was able to keep Dandy Child in front for most of the distance Int when the straight was entered Ii hting and Spynic (Doyle) fought it out between then and the latter just scraped horne by a length.

The results were as follows-- 1-ONCE ROUND HANDICAP. B Class. For China ponies 1st prize, $250; and prize. $100, 3rd prize, $75.
