NAVAL OFFICERS ANTISING EXPERIENCE.
During the early hours of the other morning an amusing incident occurred at Devenport which caused great dis- appointment to a party of vigilaat bluejackets. An officer in one of the ships in the part, who keeps a small number of poultry near his ship, was teturaing at about breakfast time from a duck-shooting expedition. Having bad the usual sort of luck over-night, he decided not to return empty handed, so, before returning to | his ship, landed near his own poultry vard and killed one of his ducks to display as his "bag" on return to the ship Unfortunately for him-in this particular case--a very smart lookout was being kept on board, since on several occasions the ducks have given the alarm" when poultry thieves have been at work.
