LONDON, August 30. Two persons were killed and twelve injured in sectarian rioting at Belfast yesterday. There was a renewal of the disturbance in the morning. Brisk revolver firing took place in the streets-Foree persons were taken to hospital. Police and armoured cars cleared the streets and quietness was restored but not without considerable excitement,

LOCOMOTIVE MEN STRIKE IN DEFIANCE OF UNION.

TROUBLE THREATENING TO SPREAD.

LONDON, August 30.

Contrary to the instructions of their union, the locomotive men of the Great Northern Railway in Belfast struck at midnight against the proposed establishment of a 10 hour day. The trouble threatens to spread to Dublin and Dundalk,

BELFAST TRAIN SERVICE COMPLETELY SUSPENDED. The strike on the Northern Railway of Ireland was due to the refusal of the company to join other companies in arbitration proceedings in Dublin but when announced in the afternoon the company decided to accep: the findings of the arbitration tribunal. The men who struck in Dublin in the morning have resumed. There is still no news of resumption in Belfast where the train service is completely suspended..

SHEFFIELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S APPEAL.

Mr. Arthur Balfour, head of a deputation from the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, appeared before the Senate finance committee and appealed against the prohibitive American tariffs on tigh grade steel. He declared that he did not ask for favouritism but we were anxious to pay our debt to America and this was only possible by trade.

The mysterious death by poison of M. Perineau, a wealthy merchant off Treux. Eure-et-Loir Department, is puzzling the police of that smali provincial town
