The hands of the second figure are coming together in a signal evidently for On both some ceremonial set. figures are a few slight restorations only, and the colour remaining on them shows great richness and beauty. The period of this example is early Ming. Still earlier in date-probably early Twelfth Century, Sung-is another, much smaller seated figure in wood, also just bought for the Museum. It, too, shows remaining traces of colour. The figure represents Kwan-Yin, in the attitude of Kingly Repose. This example is not yet displayed in the galleries, but the Emperor and his Son (?) is already placed in Room 62.
