NEWS HAS PACIFYING INFLUENCE IN DISTURBED AREA.

LONDON, May 26.

The War Office announces that the first of four infantry battalions which are being dispatched to Upper Silesia, will leave Cologne on Friday. Ultimately two Irish battalions at present in England wa be despatched. making a total of six. A Ferlin message states that news of the despatch of British troops has had a pacifying influence in Upper Silesia. The troops

The Chancellor, Herr Wirth, speaking at a conference of Baden states- men at Karlsruhe, emphasised that Germany's acceptance of the ultimatum was sincere but said that only performances would convince the world at Germany's goodwill, and the work of reconstruction must be begun. It would be wrong not to acknowledge the economic improvement of Germany dur- ing the past two years, and if commerce revived through the promotion of production the German people would have some respectable performances to show Referring to Upper Silesia, he welcomed Britain's assurance of fairplay.
