PRINCESS DAZZŁYS FAVOURITE PUDDING.
There was once a little girl called Dolly who lived in Wales."
Now there are very high hills in Wales and some of them are steep and rocky too. In front of the house where Dolly lived there was a buge! bill and she often climbed partly up,
picking wild flowers and ferns,
One day it was very hot and sunny and Dolly, who had climbed some way, was soon tired and sat down to rest near a big boulder.
As she lay on the grass, feeling very lazy and comfortable, she of a crack in the rock. She crept a bit nearer and when she put her head close to the crack there was the most delicious smell of strawberry ice and mint and cowslips, all mixed up together.
"It must be the rock fairies kitchen," she thought and just then she heard a voice saying,
"Hard-as-Nails, put on some more wood, The Strawberrymintcowslip pudding must be ready by the time that Princess Dazzly has come. She is sure to be hungry after her journey and the Queen has ordered ber favourite pudding to be made."
"It smells very good," said another voice. "I should like to have a taste of it."
"No indeed to goodness whatever you cannot!" cried the first one, (You must remember that these were Welsh fairies and so they did not speak quite the same as English Foxes.) The Princess has such a big appetite that she has had to have a specially large dish made and if it was not full to the brim she would cry more."""
foot think this Princess sconds a very nice person," remarked the other fairy, who was new to that place and had been carried over the bill by a whirlwind the day before
"Oh you must not say that Hard- as Nails replied the first fairy, "She is a very sweet and charming princess. The only fault that she has is that she cries because she wants more padding."
But, Rockbrown, why do you not give her more?" asked Hard-as- Nails:

Hard-as-Nails must have piled on heaps of wood for the smoke now came out in such clouds that it got into Dolly's eyes and she lay down on the grass again, mopping her eyes with her handkerchief.
Suddenly she sat up, for she had an idea.
"I know what I can do," she said to herself, "I heard Mother say that a big hamper of strawberries was coming to-day by train for making jam. Perhaps she will let me have some and then I can leave them by the boulder and Rockbrown can make a huge pudding for Princess Dazzly." She was rehole as fast as she could. But before she started back she made an arrow in white stones tear to the rock, so that she would be sure to know it again.
And as she went through the gate there was the bamper of strawberries being lifted out of the carrier's cart.
Dolly ran indoors and found her mother in the kitchen, getting the bottles ready for the jam,
Mother," she cried,! Will you do me a favour ?"
"What is it Dolly?" asked her mother, "I daresay I shall be able to manage it."
"I am not sure whether you will Mother," said Dolly anxiously. But I do want it so much. Will you give me a basket of strawberries to take up the hai?"
Do you want to have a feast with the fairies Dolly?" smilingly asked her mother
"I will tell you all about it," said the little girl, but her mother told her that she would wait till that night when Dolly went to bed as they had to be quick and unfasten the hamper, because she wanted to start making the jam straight away.
So the hamper was undone and Doly's mother
gave her some
strawberries in a basket.
Then away up the hill again went Dolly. She soon found the rock by the arrow of stones and she put down the basket close by it. There was only a tiny cloud of smoke coming out of the crack In the rock and all was quiet, so she soon went home again to help her mother.
But the next day, very early, she Because we never can find enough climbed up the hill once more strawberries," answered Rockbrown. The strawberries had disappeared, There are dozens of our people out on basket and all, but in their place was the billside looking for strawberries alla suali stone, dazzlingly white, and day, but only very tiny ones grow on it was writter to thay specks of bere and they never can find enough, gold, "Thank you Indeed to goodness, he added with:
a sigh, "I wish that we had the big strawberries which I believe grow in
some of the mortals' gardens but
there are none round here."
