EFFECT OF REMARRYING.
A reduction of the pensions esti mate in the next Budget is expected to amount to nearly £10,000,000, mainly due to the marriage of war widows and economies in staffing at the Ministry of Pensions.
Widows of officers and men receive large sums and fuse these on re- marriage.
The countervailing claims of new
•pensioners under Article 9 of the Royal Warrant, however, seem likely to wipe out future savings. This article deals with disablement after discharge, and enables a man months and even years after his discharge to secure a gratuity if he can prove his disablement to be due to or aggra- vated by military service.

Genuine ex-Service pensioners are not a little worried at the latitude this class allows to men who "may" bave avoided service early in the war and only served a few months over- seas but who now come to the Peasions Ministry for a gratuity when others who fought consistently for years have been refused. The clause is certain, therefore, to be reconsidered in the light of recent claims
