The position of General Smuts has been further improved, with only ten results awaited. The South African Party bas secured 72 seats, Labour pine, the Nationalists six and Independent one.

The position at midnight was as follows South African Party 76 (18) gains), Labour unchanged, Nationalists 41 (seven gains), and Independent one. General Smuts has now an assured majority of 20 seats which it beyond all expectations as ten was considered a good working majority.
