CHILDREN'S CORNER.

My dear Children,

The Fog Fairy had been looking at Angel's green frock, which was be- autifully embroidered in seven colours and because she only had a dull grey |

she was feeling rather garment envious.

Everyone came out to see it and they all said How lovely! and "Look at all those colours"! and the children ran about clapping their hands and shouting "Come and see the rainbow"!

THE RAINBOW.

Years and years ago there was a dear little princess whose name was Angelica Seraphina Veronica Dearest Darling. That is a long name isn't it? It almost takes your breath away to say it and so she was always called "Angel" for short.

Angel's mother was very fond of sewing and as she knew that babies liked coloured things she made dresses out of all the most beautiful silks that could be bought and embroidered them with many differ-! ent colours, so that Angel often looked like a bright butterfy flut tering about.

Yeu know of course that all princesses Eave fairy godmothers! who look after and take care of them it they are in danger.

Angel's godmother, although she often came to the palace, had never had to help her ged-child out of any difficulty because up to the time that she was six years old her nurse and: the ladies-in-waiting had looked after her so well that no harm bad ever come to her...

Bat, just after her sixth birthday, a dreadful thing happened.

Angel was playing in the garden with a ball, throwing it up into the air as high as she could, when all of a sudden it fell behind a clamp of bushes.

Her nurse went off to fetch it, thinking that the child would be quite safe for a minute. But she did not know that a Fog Fairy was near by and these fairies are often very mischievous.

Then Wispy put on the gay dress and laughed and danced with glee, feeling ever so grand.

They did not mean to be unkind to Argel but she, poor child, was very unhappy at being taken away h from her mother and she sat down in a corner of the care and began to cry. And whenever_princesses ny their fairy godmothers, however busy or far away they are, know what is happening and come to the rescue.

it

So, as the big tears went splash splash on the ground, to Angel's surprise she heard that each one as it touched the floor sounded like & word and this is what she made out to be To-night take dress, Lay it on hill. Say to yourself Mother. Home-Walk over bridge."

Just like a telegram you see, and Angel stopped crying (after the word "bridge the tears just dropped quietly on the ground so she knew that there was to more to be heard) and felt quite happy again.

Soon afterwards Wispy's mother handed round bowls of soup and black bread and then ste and Wispy lay down to sleep, having carefully shut the door of the care.

When they were both fast asleep Angel very quietly took down her dress, which was heug on the wall on to an icicle, and walked straight through the doors, as people always do walk through a fog if they have to-

Once outside she feit safe, but the question was how to get home again.

Remembering, the tear message she laid her dress carefully on the ground and said out loud, "Mother. Home and then she saw that all the seven colours in her dress were spreading out and forming into a bridge right across the sky.

No one had ever seen such a thing happen before but somebody the other side of the world who saw it said, "Why there's a rainbow"! because it just happened to be raining when this beautiful coloured bow appeared in the sky.
