GERMAN REPARATIONS
HOW THE SURRENDERED TONNAGE HAS BEEN ALLOCATED.
NEW INDEMNITY PROPOSALS
PARIS January 20.-- The Réparations Commission announces that 2,034,729 gross tons of shipping were delivered to the Commission up to December 31, of which 2019,654 tons were steamships 9,750 tom trawlers, and 25,325 tons sailing ships. Germany is still bound to deliver 500,000 tons. The Commission up to the present has allocated 1,477,839 tons to Britain, 166,294 tons to France, 124,901 tons to Italy, 28,678 tons to Japan, and 15,831 tons to Bālgium.
MINIMUM ANNUAL INSTALMENTS.
;
LONDON, January 20. With the advent of the dew French Ministry reparations negotiations begun in Brussels before Christmas have been, speeded up in Paris in the hope of finding a practical solution which will esable the Allied chiefs to reach a decision at their forthcoming conference. The papers in Paris to-day declare that Allied experts have drafted and signed recommendations to the Supreme Council that Germany should pay five minimum annual Instalments of £480,000,000. This programme was drawn up without the assent of the German delegates whose chief, Herr Bergmann, refused to agree to the amount. L'Echo da Peris says that if payments are not forth coming the customs will be seized and certain nonopolies taken over or formed.
GERMAN GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE.
LONDON, January,20. Notwithstanding the apparent disinclination manifested in some German quarters to tackle "the reparations question to the Allies' satisfaction, Reater gathers authoritatively that the German Government fully realises the necessity of acceding to propisals for a partial discharge of the indem- nity by five years' fixed instalments as set out. Acceptance of the proposi- tion would enable the Brussels Conference to discuss Germany's total in debtedness.

REV. MR. MACO VACHIE.
WELCOMED BACK TO HONGKONG.
A PLEASANT CEREMONY,
The Rev. I. Kirk Maconachie, pastor of Union Church, who has just returned from leave, was wel comed back last night by the mem- ders of his Church and the other Churches of the Colony.
It was a pleasant ceremony. J. L. McPherson, secretary of the Y.M.C.A., presided. He told Mr. and Mrs. Maronacine how glad their friends were to see them again He added that the members of the Church had worked well during his absence and had fully maintained the post- tion of the Church. He hoped they would continue to do their part, and not leave everything to the minister.
Mr. Mactrachie, replying in behalf of Mrs. Maconachie as well as him- sell. suit the: when the anchor. was dropped he was filled with the pride of an old residem to bear travel- fers say they had been all over the world but Hongkong harbour "took the "biscuit" (as they expressed it). He walked along Kennedy Road in the moonlight on his first might en shore and really thought Hongkong the most beautiful place he had ever seen. Now he and Mrs. Maconachie were home, he hoped their friends would come and see them not leave bits of pasteboard in the afternoon; one saw more pasteboard in Hongkeng than in
