It is generally assumed that De Valera pas landed in Ireland. He is believed to be in Dublin, although his whereabouts are very closely hidden. The Government expects to have the Northern Parliament constituted three months bence. Candidates are already being selected. It is generally understood that Sir James Craig will be the first Premier. Sir Edward Carson, who will not take office in the Ulster administration, has decided to retire.

LONDON, January 5. Soldiers ambushed rear Kanturk in Cork routed their assailants, killing sixteen and capturing many with all rifles and ammunition. This is the first occasion of an ambush or a large scale being effectively beaten. It occurred in a secluded roadway. A bomb was thrown at three military lorries from Mallow but missed. Revolver firing ended to which the troops replied by fring a fusillade at both sides of the road Some of the soldiers, aided by a smoke screen, made a sortie and rounded all the assailants. None of the troops was injured.

PROPOSALS FOR A BIG TRADING CORPORATION.

JOINT APPROVAL.

LONDON, January S.--- The Times publishes the proposals approved by the Government "and Krassin in order to facilitate the resumption of Anglo-Russian trade. It is proposed to establish a Russian trading corporation for the conduct and development of Angle Russian trade. The corporation will be in two parts, ope in Britain and the other in Russia. The capital will be £10,000,000, equally subscribed by Britain and Russia, who well equally divide the profits. The corporation will be a monopoly in Russia but, it is not fatended to be such in Britain. The corporation will buy direct from and sell to British manufacturers at competitive prices. All firms will eligible for membership in the corporation.

Isaacs, merchant in the City of London. He was educated at the University College School, and Brussels, and Hanover.
