If the patient is unconscious, place him for five or six minutes in a batir at a temperature of 100 degrees F.. gradually raising this to 104 or 107 degrees if the reaction does not take place. At the same time hathe the head with cold water and

rub vigorously with alcohol or spirita. of turpentine. The heat of water reawakens the reflexes, the skin becomes red and the patient gasps z few times. Then take him out of the bath and lay him nude up on 2 bed, when he will generally begin to perspire freely. Fan him gently then let him go to sleep," watching-him closely to see that his pulse does not fall off or his breathing become irregular, in which case begin the treatment over again.

Dr. Chastagin has used this method on twenty serious cases and has not failed in one. Occasionally when the external stimulation did not sudice, he gave an injection of ether or of caffein as well.

EL- Willcox, who was with the British Expeditionary Force in the Mesopotamia campaign of 1916 1917 and 1918, and had abundant opportunity to study sunstrokes, recommends tirely different treatment. In a recent lecture, be said there were four types of Winess caused by exposure to beat; (1) beat exhaustion. (mild type); (2) gastric; (3) choleraic or gastro in- testinal; and (4). unstroke. The first type is not dangerous except 28 it may lead to one of the others. In the gastric type, removal, if possible, to a cool atmosphere, bicarbonate of soda in frequent" full doses by the mouth and free purgation give the best results. The cholerzle type is treated-like cholera,
