CARPENTIER TO MEET DEMPSEY.
CONTRACT, COMPLETED.
NEW YORK, October 27
The Dempsey and Carpentier match contract which is being signed on Oct. 27 stipulates a meeting between Feb 1, 1921, and July 1, 1921, for a ten to fiteen round tout. The prize will be a record purse and a per centage of the moving picture receipts. It is officially estimated that the fighters will divide $200,000. The contest will probably be held at Madison Square Garden, but the contract does not prevent it being held in Canada, Mexico, Cuba, er the West Indies. The contract was completed after a lengthy conference between Messrs. Kearns, Deschamps, Cochran and William Brady.
DEATH OF MR McSWINEY,
VERDICT OF THE CORONER'S JURY.
"LONDON, October 27.
At the inquest on the Mayor of Cork, the jury returned a verdict that Mr. McSwiser died from heart failure and acute delirium following scarvey due to exhaustion from a prolonged refusal to take food.
LEAGUE OF NATIONS.
A TOUGH PROBLEM CONSIDERED,
BRUSSELS, October 27.
The Council of the League of Nations at present meeting bare is con fronted with the Polish and Lithuanian question and the complications in- troduced by the action of General Zeligowski. It is stated, however, that the Ceuncil is unable to induce either the Lithuanians or the Foles to undertake military action against General Zeligowski. It is anderstood that the Couccit, unable to appeal to force, has decided to postpone settlement which can only take the form of economic pressure.
BRUSSELS, October 27.
It is new announced that the Council of the League of Nations is making a further attempt to settle the Polish and Lithuanian trouble. It
is retearing the representatives of both countries today.
LEAGUE HEADQUARTERS REMOVED.
LONDON, October 2
The decision to remove the headquarters of the League of Nations from London to Geneva was carried into effect to-day when the Secretariat departed by a special train from Victoria for Geneva.

A conference of the building trades unions at Manchester reafirmed the selusal to suspend the trade union regulations by which ex-Service men arte ergaged to provide the labour requisite for the solution of the housing problem. The decision is important in view of Mr. Lloyd George's watig that "if the kvilding trades object they must take their chance."

The Echo de Paris says that the French Government intends to protest Hoihow.. "to Britain against the decision not to confiscate German property in England in the event of Germany defaulting. The Paris Press comments adversely on the decision and sees in it an intimation that Germany may consider the Treaty of Versailles a scrap of paper.
PARIS, October 27.
The Press is much exercised" at the British abandonment of rights over German property. It believes that the decision is singularly calculated to encourage a German campaign for a revision of the Treaty.
SOVIET TEARS.
MOSCOW IN AN INTENSIFIED STATE OF SIEGE.
IMPENDING TROUBLE RUMOURED.
LONDON, October 27.
A revivial of the reports of trouble impending in Russia" is contained in a Helsingfors message which states that the Soviet is very anxious, and, fearing a counter-revolution, has placed Moscow in an intensified state of siege. The Soviet has issued a proclamation that no mercy will be shown to insurgents.
The Bolshevik journal Issvestia in Moscow reports that between July Zt and August, 21, 1,163 people were shot in spite of the fact that capital punishment was supposed to have been officially abolished.
