TIRED OF DIVORCE CASES,
U.S. JUDGE SEEKS TRANSFER.
The marriage laws are fast be* coming, meaningless, because the more divorces a woman has to her credit- or rather, discredit-the more men she is able tɔ get."
This was the opinion expressed by Judge Joseph B. David, of the Superior Count of linois in a re- quest to be transferred to another Court because He was tired of hearing divorce casES. Something must be
done he said, to prevent rich couples From slipping from one State to another in search of an easy and ex- peditious way of untying the marriage krot.
I have reached the decision to apply,- for transler Judge David wrtell be- cause I am convinced that marriage does not mean anything sny more.
t have reached this conclusion aftor siting here, day by day. for many years. Perhaps my ideas are old fashioned, but it they are. I believe in them, and I am glad I am getting out of this Court.
Judge David has been for years strong advocate of national divorce laws as remedy for the existing evit of easy divorces.

OUTLAWS CUSTOMS,
FROM BRIGANDAGE TO MILITARISM.
A government's offer of a reward for the arrest of a bandit is equivalent to an award bf honour to the culprit con- cerned. according to the custom of the outlaw world. A surprise party was given at the home of Shau N Warr Sheklung City. the other day, upon the receipt of news that en addi tional reward of From $300 to $1,000 had been offered for the arrest of Wang Up-pei, a bandit-chief and his leading followers who had. recently. attacked Tungkun City..
In the outlaw world, one's rank and power is more or less governed. by the amount or price put on his head by the government officials. In fact, no bandit may organize a band, unless at least a thousand dollars has In case been offered for his head. he is not the chief ol a band, he is not supposed to write black-mail·ler- ters or receive protection money from the inhabitants or passenger junks of the river traffic

THE BIGGEST TELESCOPE.
PHOTOGRAPHING THE STARS..
At the last meeting of the American Astronomical Society Professor Hale reported some preliminary results of comparative tests of the new 100 inch reffector at Mr. Wilson, and the 60 inch reflector ar the same observatory. Says The Scientific American: The superiority of the few instrument is well shown by the experience d Dr. Merrill in spectographic studies o! stars of Class Md., of which about two hundred brighter, than the ninth magnitude at maximum are known in the latitudes accessible to the Mt.
For most of. Wilson instruments. these stars exposures of Eve hours or more are required with the 60 inch to yield a measurable absorption spec- trum. It is hardly advisable to enter upon an extensive study of these ob jects with the smaller telescope but" the greater light-gathering power of the 100 inch, says. Professor Hale, makes such a study perfectly feasible. Dr. Shapley, in studying star cluster's with the 100 inch Bnds a gain of about one magnitude. Photographs of the moon have not yet been made ender ideal conditions with the new telescope, but Professor Hale states that the extraordinary minute, structure of lunar details that he has observed visually with this Instrument indicate that it is exceptionally well adapted for lunar photography."
