It is hardly advisable to enter upon an extensive study of these ob jects with the smaller telescope but" the greater light-gathering power of the 100 inch, says. Professor Hale, makes such a study perfectly feasible. Dr. Shapley, in studying star cluster's with the 100 inch Bnds a gain of about one magnitude. Photographs of the moon have not yet been made ender ideal conditions with the new telescope, but Professor Hale states that the extraordinary minute, structure of lunar details that he has observed visually with this Instrument indicate that it is exceptionally well adapted for lunar photography."
