their regular wages. He is consider ing a profit-sharing system, because he feels it of utmost import ance to hold his employees and prevent a large turnover of labour. He states that his own mills have been prospering, because they are well managed, but that many of the other Chinese mills are bound to fail, and makes the statement that the great difficulty is going to be strikes, as the Chinese have

natural tendency for concerted action, and the cotton mill operatives are apt to be restless and demand constantly higher wages, as they know that the owners cannot get trained
