Reviewing the Sgures of the

SUBSIDIARY COINE, balance-sheet and the profit and loss Hengkong &C centa sub. account, the Chairman said that the investments in subsidiary companies stood at £223,239, as against 195,571 at the end of 1913. an increase of £28,668. Their expansion in Canada alone would more than account for that increase. Stock In trade amounted to £682,467, against £490,759, showing the large increase of £191,708. In view of their large tumover that increase was quite! justified. The general reserve fund'

The profit for the year from branches and subsidiary companies was £148.. 887, against £112,031 in 1918, an in- crease, of £36,856, which, he trusted, the shareholders would regard as satisfactory. They ended the "year with a balance of £90.407, and in the 'report they put forward their that recommendation as to how balance should be dealt with.

The whole of Europe, including "England, had a heavy task before it in, reconstructing individual and national life, which the war had completely deranged. In that task they had in this country two factors of incalculable value not possessed- or not possessed to anything like the same extent by any other country in the world.
