The London Paris passenger and freight air service opens its new London terminus this week, and the aerodrome will be moved from Houndlow to Waddon near Croyden says the Journal of Commerce of April This new. "air-part" will be a considerable improvement on the old one from several paints at view,

The position of the Hounslow Aerodrome, in a hollow below the Surrey Hills often placed it under a belt of fog when the rest of Lender was clear. Another serious draw back was the bad roadway approach for motors. Waddon is farther away from London, but considerably. easier to get at. A hout is being established at the aerodrome for the convenience of air travellers. The Airco Company are putting some new machines on to the route with great speed and large carrying capacity. These are known as No. 18 type and fitted with a Napier-Lion engine of 470 h.p. They carry eight passengers jor a ton of goods at a speed of 125 miles per hour. The facilities offered by this new terminus are likely to prove another important factor in the development of commercial air traffic to the continent this spring-

Another extension in the commér- clal air service is being made by the Handley Page Transport Company, Limited.

Flying has beeh maintained almost. uninterruptedly week by week, although many individual fights. have had to be postponed owing to inclement weather or lack of machines at the starting point. Before the end of the summer, arrangements will have been completed that will largely deal with these two causes of delay. The fuller and more reliable weather forecasts now available and the experience gained by the per- sonnel, and use of Marconi wireless telephony between the machines and aerodromes will do much to counteract the obstructions of weather. A large number of machines in commission and a better understanding of the handling of them will tend to ensure that a machier in flying condition is always available where it is required. Goods and parcels traffic will certainly, In course of time become independent of the seasons, but summer will always be the heavier period for passenger trafic as many will then make the trip simply for the sake of the experience and not merely as a means of crossing from one capita to another.

saloon generally on the principle of the 0-7" type but with various improvements that were introduced Into the Wa The machines for cargo will consist almost entirely of a cargo hold but a small cabin will be provided in the rear for the accommodation of two or three pas sengers. There will, always remain the two passenger seats in the nose.

It is intended, to run a daily.ser- vice of passenger machines to Paris and a service of freighters on alter- nate days. The Brussels service will be alternately passenger and freight machines daily. The service in re- spect of parcels and other freight will therefore remain as now, while passengers will be carried every day in each capital. The cargo machines fying on the alternate days will be. able to carry three passengera in case of need.

This improved type of passenger machine is to be known as the Handey Page 0-10, while the new carga wachines will be described as 011. Externally they are both alimilar to the 0-7.

It has been decided to extend the service by machines of the "O" type rather than this year's model, the W8.. The accommodation is exactly the same in each, and the '0" machines have a disadvantage only of a slower speed.

The machines at present operating on these services have only been in se for about six months, so that it is assumed that there will not be much delay between the time when they become absolete and the time- the newer ones have to be replaced.; It la the intention then to replace the whole lot by machines of the W-8 type, or a still further improvement of the latter..
