The significance of the first bill rests upon the fact that the US. Bureau of Shipping has not been officially recognised as have similar agencies in foreign countries. In consequence many US shippers have given preference to Lloyd's registry.

RIFLE BUTTS MARKER SHOT.
A verdict of accidental death, was returned at the inquest on the body | of Joseph Thomas O'Neill, an ex- sergeant of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, who was shot in the head: whilst acting as a marker on the miniature rifle range at Parkhurst Prison, Isle of Wight. It was stated that the deceased put his head round the bitts to mark a sighter; instead of drawing in the target, just as the the Carisbrooke rifle captain of team, Charles Bunce, was firing the next shot. The deceased gave no warning, and was not seen by Bunce, to when no blame was attributed.
