LONDON, May 6. The new opium bill prohibits the importation or exportation of raw opium except under licence through approved ports. It prohibits the importation and exportation of prepared opin, and penalises the manufacture, sale, possession, and use thereof. It prohibits importation exportation (except under licence) of medicinal opium, morphine, cocaine, etgonine, and heroin, the penalty being a fine but exceeding £200 or imprisonment not exceeding six months,

- Owing to the financial crisis, leading wholesalers, in cotton and silk piece-goods are reducing their prices by fifty per cent. Weaving firms are suspending work in order to curtail production and prevent a further fall of prices. A few weaving firms have permanently closed down.
