The government was at present unprepared to adopt such a suggestion. He pointed out that this was not the beginning of a new war. There had Hon. Mr. Pollock, K.C., before his Messrs. to participate in the development of the oilfields of Mesopotamia and other parts of the empire. It says the close alliance of the shell com pany and the Royal Dutch group has been the factor of all discussions in the question of its participating in such development. It emphasises the view that in view of the powerful interests involved, and the great national importance of oil, these. arrangements must be most closely scrutinised publicly. In connection with the above, it is noteworthy that the Shell company claims to hold Turkish concessions in regard to Mesopotamian oilfields.
