It gives me a considerable amount of pleasure to be able to place before you the account of such an extremse- ly satisfactory year's working and to be able to tell you at the same time that the cutlook for the present yea is equally gratifying. It has been an exceptionally prosperous year for all Cotton Spinning "Com- panies, due mainly by the abnor- mal scarcity of supplies of Yara all over the world and also in a large measure by the phenomen rise in the "Silver exchanges, which undoubtedly account for the price of supplies of Raw Cotton remaining at a reasonable level. Our operations in the new year have been very satis factory and should, barring accidents, assure to the Milf bandsome returns, so much to that the record, results now before you will soon have to make

for better ones. "Last year's results would have been stül better but for the fact that we. experienced labour troubles for nearly three months which caused a material reduction in our production. That the effect of the troubles were not more serious is due to the efforts of; our Mill: Man- " ager and his Assistants and I, there fore, take this opportunity of recorde ing our appreciation of their untiring efforts. We propose to show our recognition by paying them three months salary as a bonus, with the exception of the Mill Manager, who receives a small percentage in 'the " Company's profits and is therefore Interested in the results.

While I have no doubt that you will readily approve of the distribu tion, I am atraid some of you may think our dividend declaration: unduly conservative. This may on the face of it certainly seem so, but we have had such a long spell of lean years in this in dustry that your Board is most anxious to take advantage of the present prosperity to place the Com position and to free it once and for pany's affairs in an unassailable
