The fitters of the Royal Naval Dockyard are also working steadily, with no indications of quitting.
The following is the official an- nouncement by the Secretary for Chinese Affairs

THE SKETCH CLUB,'
We are requested to add to the account in our Tuesday's issue of the meeting of, the Hongkong Art Club, which was held at "Kenlis," No. 77 the Peak, on Monday after- noon, in order to make it quite clear. This was not an exhibition of Lieutenant Colonel Loring's and Major Bowen's pictures only, but of the members of the Hongkong Art Club, which held its first monthly meeting of the year at this time. The meeting was an open one, in order to interest the general public in the work of the Club, Two sub- jects for work were allocated by the Committee before-hand-in this case, funks, and an open subject—and all present voted. The prize for junks: was won by a delightful study of a junk In misty moonlight, by Mrs. McPherson, while the open subject. prize was given to Mrs. Basil Taylour for a study of a cornfield in Sussex.

AMAZING BUSINESS.
BIGGEST FRAUD FOR YEARS,
Many thousands of pounds are sup "posed to have been lost by firms in different parts of England in their dealings with the British and Argen-. tine Packing Company, of London and Liverpool!
Arising out of transactions, three brothers were recently charged with conspiracy, and at the Old Bailey the „prosecuting counsel said they had been guilty of the most substantial and cunning, commercial trends for many years.
1
Prisoners, who live at Chiswick and
Fulham, are William. Arthar, and Thomas Mackenzie. They carried on the company and counsel said that in six months their banking account rose from £80 to £41,644.
Business grew in an amazing way. and the accused obtained large quan- tities of goods on credit, which were never paid for. These goods, said counsel, were then resold to retailers.
Last year the business crashed, and the liabilities to unsecured creditors amounted to 18,759. Shortly be fore the crash a concern known as the Anglo-Argentine Packing Com- pany, Limited, was formed, with à» nominal capital of £10,000.
Course said an ingenious move was then adopted by which the busi- ness of the British and Argentine Packing Company was transferred to the limited company, and the only thing which was registered was the sale of the goodwill for 100 shares. The thing that really mattered-the transfer of the stock (which had not been paid, for to the company-did not appear.
