PRAMATIC CHASE ENDS IN A FIGHT AND CAPTURE.
-
Wut Carlisle, known as Vanishing: Bill, a notorious-Western train rob ber, was captured on December 2, near Douglas, Wyoming, after a pistol fight in a blinding snowstorm as a climax to a series of adventures which put the moving pictures to shame.
Carlisle, who is twenty-nine years of age, was serving a twenty-five years term in prison at Rawling, Wyoming, when he escaped on November 15. He robbed a lone cabin dweller of a shotgun, and three days later held up the Los Angeles Limited train of the Union Pacific Railway near Medicine Bow, Wyòmi ing. He lined up all the passengers in one coach while the train was travelling at forty miles an hour, He announced that he declined to take anything from women and children but searched all the men, obtained several thousand dollars worth of loot, stopped the train, and made off.. As he jumped from the train some one fired' a shot at him which lodged (in his right palm, making it awkward for him to use his "shooting irons."
RECKLESS BRAVADO.
The pursuit of Carlisle began im mediately, and ended on December 2. Carlisle showed reckless bravado during the chase. One day he enter ed the village of Casper, Wyoming) swaggered into a local newspaper office, demanded that the editor should explain to him what the Union Pacific Railway detectives and sheriffs, posse were daing in the effort to catch him and after chatting.
