AMALGAMATION.

(Cendiuced from page 1) The Nerwich Union Valon Fire surance Society has an authorised capital of £1,100,000, all of which has been subscribed and £132,000- paid to, the shares being for £25 with 43 paid. There is also 4 per cent, debenture stock to the amount

· of £547,194. The company is a well- managed institution, the elder brother of the Norwich Union Life Office, with which it has been closely sociated fer. *usiness purposes. At one time the smpany confined itself to fire insurance, but it now transacts accident and marine basiuess. The Interests of the Norwich and London Accident Insurance Association were acquired as from Jan. 1. 1908.

The fusion is very favourably received in Liverpool insurance circles. The general manager of the Norwich Uaion, Mr. R. Y. Sketch, is very popular among his colleagues, and is an unusually young man to occupy that position. He is looked upon as very capable and progressive. From the point of view of the offices, their business hardly clashes in any way. and the joining of their forces must make for the good of the two com- panies and for the insurance world at large.
