THE JAIL MURDER.
The Criminal Sessions spered this. The Landon Tíma of December 5, morning, the cases being heard by said: We regret to announce that the Chief Justice, Sir Williaci Rees Field Marshal Sir Evelyn Wood Davies, K.C. and the Puisne Judge, V.C, died on Tuesday afternoon at Mr. Justice Gompertz. The calendar included cases of assault with intent bis residence, Millhurst, Harlow, to rob, forgery, the Victoria Jail Essex, la bis 82nd year.

The first case called before the Chief Justice was that of Wour
eng alais Nga is, who was charged with the murder of Warder Speed at Victoria Jail on December. 15.
On hearing of Sir Evelyn. Wood's | dits.” death, the King sent the following telegram to Colonel Evelyn. Wood, the Field-Marshal's eldest son —— "The King is gravid to hear of the death of your father, fia Majesty will join with the whole Army in mourning the less of the gallant and distinguished Field-Marshal, who gave his services to the Country during three successive reigns. The King desire me to express his true sympathy with YOU and your family."
FieldMarshal Sir Evelyn Wood, Y.C., G.C.B., GCM.G., was the fifth and youngest son in a family of 11 children of the Rev. Sir John Page Food, Bt., vicar of Cressing. In Essex, and afterwards: rector of St. Peter's Cornhill.
The Attorney-General, Hon. Mr. J. H. Kemp, with Mr. Lee Lenginotto appeared for the Crown and accused was defended by Mr. R. E., Belilios, instructed by Mr. W. B. Hind.
Prisoner in pleading not guilty said "I did not do so."
