for January 1h bas been postponed until January 13th, when Bir Eris will have returned with the Premier's, viaws on the question.

Moreover, it is anticipated that a Cabinet meeting in being held on January 13th, and that a decision as regards the rejection of the Government's offer will be communicated on Tuesday.

It is pointed out in Government circles that if the men's full demands are con- ceded, the nation would have fought the autump strike in vain, and it is regarded probable that the Government will be unable to recede from the position already taken up, while it is believed that the hostility of the branches to the terma arranged with the lenders is largely due to misapprehensions.

Meanwhile, it is noteworthy to recall that, in a resent speech at Birmingham, Mr. J. R. Thomas described the 'offer is an immense advance and 1 fair and bon. curable settlement which the men ought to accept as it would bring untold bless ings on the great taas of the railwaymed.

COMING MARATHON RACE.

A Marathon Race under the aus pices of the Hongkong Boxing Association, is announced for, Feb.. 7. A course has been mapped out which will carry the competitors along Caine Road, Pokfulum Road Jubilee Road back to the centre of the City. Ja this respect it differs from the event of a couple of years ago when Shaukiwan --- was the turning point. The idea of the present course is to avoid as much as possible the tramway track. The fine open roads of the west side af the island should provide plenty of room for runners and followers without inconvenience to the regular, traffic of the City. The race will be a good test of endurance as there is quite on amount of hill work, to be negotiated. Entries for the "event" should be sent to the Secretary, Hongkong Boxing Association.

His Lordship If I make the order for admission it will be necess ary that he shall have a certificate to show that his admission is still in force. Imay say at oncethat although through no fault of Mr. Turner's, it

that these formalities, necessary for appears to be rather extraordinary the admission of a solicitor in Horgkong, were not put before him by Mr. Looker, who, I believe, was president of the Law Society here. Some amendments were made to ter ordinance at the suggestion of the Law Society and it appears to me that either the ordinance should be complied with or it should be re pealed. T shåll make the order subject to the necessary documents being forthcoming. In the meantime, I must ask the At torney General to be good enough to recommend to the Law Society that it should point out in future that the requirements of the ordinance must be complied with or I shall recommend the Government that they be taken off the statute book. Mr. Turner, I have much pleasure in admitting you to practise in these Courts. You have been actively engaged for a period of about five years in serving your country. That in itsell shows the grit you are made. of and I doubt not that it augues well for your future as a solicitor. I have much pleasure in admitting: you.

Mr. Turner-Thank you, my Lord.
