vised by its legal chief, that a Elaim for £40,000 was not in order, and inquiry showed that the claimant firm ran their business in two dis tinct sections, (a) Government con- tracts and (b) private work. The legal chief discovered that the claim. had nothing to do with the Govern ment contracts side, but by some remarkable means had been put in His view was upheld by the law advisers to the Government, but curious to relate without the case ever being raferred to the head of the department against which the claim as being preferred, he wrote a letter to the financial department. requesting that the £40,000 be paid to the daimants as a matter of poliny !!
